NAPAK DISTRICT: KARAMOJA`S ICON OF DEVELOPMENT Napak district - TopicsExpress

NAPAK DISTRICT: KARAMOJA`S ICON OF DEVELOPMENT Napak district named after mount Napak, carved out of Moroto district in 2010 is home to about 197,700 (at least by the 2012 census). At four years, Napak has moved on from Moroto district and has identified a strategic location for its headquarters at Lokiteded, a few kilometers from Matany Sub County just before Iriri. The offices are set and connected to the national grid of electricity. Civil servants still operate from a far with the help of a mini bus to access offices. Water is not yet connected to the headquarters; the district tries its best to supply as much. Communication is not yet installed as well. The headquarters is lying on very agricultural productive land capable of feeding the sub region with its potential at Iriri and Apeitolim. Entering Kangole, its former contemporary head, also hosting the ``state house`` one can notice change, socio-economic transformation and life is more than active. Modern buildings have sprung up and people are taking on life seriously as compared to five years ago. Matany however is different, being a town board; it has moved several strides ahead. Matany hosts the prestigious missionary hospital compared to none in Eastern Uganda. With the dawn of electricity, the town is now restless. Business is booming up and life can be seen alive as early as 4:00am UNLOCKING POTENTIAL The leadership of Napak must recognize the move taken by the peoples, the business community, the youths as well as the elites. The current situation must not be shocked by the political and technical wing of the district. This however has been the case of Karamoja districts like Nakapiripirit meddled by chronic corruption by leaders setting up templed residential at the cost of the district. Abim suffocated by politicians fighting for unnoticed space to locate the headquarters and Kaabong suffering the weight of its radius on deciding whether to concentrate on Kaabong or Karenga. Time is up for the leadership of Napak to notice that life in the district seems unwilling to get disturbed by the political and technical arms. Any fighting by the two is uncalled for. For now, all policies must be geared towards embracing the socio- economic activities of the same. Corruption, political attacks, youth stigmatization, seclusion of other sub counties like Lotome and isolation of personalities willing to hatch out a way forward is only laying a coffin for the district survival.
