NAREP ATTACKS UPND LEADER HH: BORROWING LEGITIMACY During a recent interview, an Opposition politician mentioned NAREP President Mr. Elias Chipimo as having participated as a professional in providing legal services to the privatisation process. The statement was made by this politician after he faced repeated questions over several months about allegations of his questionable role in the services he rendered to the Zambia Privatisation Agency and the Government during the privatisation process. Bringing Mr. Chipimo into the discussion was misleading and constitutes a sad attempt at trying to clean up one’s reputation by making reference to those they perceive as having good standing in society. To set the record straight, Mr. Chipimo and his former law firm Corpus Legal Practitioners were advisors to certain companies that were buying assets that were being privatised. Other than on one occasion – for which he was not paid – Mr. Chipimo does not recollect being contracted to sell any assets by either the Privatisation Agency or the Government. Mr. Chipimo has never acted as either a liquidator or receiver on behalf of ZPA or the Government. We would urge all politicians to defend their reputations without trying to borrow the legitimacy and good standing of others as we march towards the 2016 general elections.
