NAS Lemoore Families, I wanted to pass along that the approval - TopicsExpress

NAS Lemoore Families, I wanted to pass along that the approval has finally come through that places our Catholic Priest on the list of government contractors who are excepted from the government shutdown; therefore, Catholic Mass will be celebrated in our NAS Lemoore Chapel on 20 October at the normal time. It is also important for everyone to understand, these past couple of weeks (i.e. not celebrating Catholic Mass here at NAS Lemoore) are not a reflection of anyone here at NAS Lemoore or even in Navy Region Southwest. It is entirely within the beltway in DC and yet another service that the government shutdown has negatively affected. The importance of continuing to offer our contracted religious services has been brought to the highest levels of attention in our government by numerous Flag officers and civilian leadership. As I am sure you are aware, Protestant Services continued here at NAS Lemoore (minus the Music Minister who is a government contractor); however, this is absolutely a result of services being led by a uniformed chaplain (i.e. not an individual under a government contract or a government civilian GS employee) who was authorized to work, like the rest of us in uniform, by the President prior to the government shutdown. Across the country, all religions have been affected to some degree, depending upon which religious services were led by a uniformed Chaplain or a government contractor. If you have any questions at all with regards to this matter, I will be happy to answer them as there are many bad rumors / misunderstandings as to what has happened over these past two weeks. All my best, CAPT Monty Ashliman Commanding Officer, NAS Lemoore
