NASAs LADEE (Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer) mission received the 2014 Popular Mechanics Breakthrough Award, which recognizes innovators, engineers, and scientists responsible for changing our world. SESDA engineers in NASAs Planetary Environments Laboratory provided significant support for the design of LADEEs Neutral Mass Spectrometer. LADEE was launched on September 6, 2013, and gathered detailed information about the lunar atmosphere, conditions near the surface, and environmental influences on lunar dust. The LADEE mission ended successfully with a controlled crash on the lunar surface this past April. nasa.gov/mission_pages/ladee/main/#.VD0yKmNFNiq
