hello seventeen year old self, i hope you still don’t have the body of a twelve year old boy but if you do, i hope you learn to accept and love it. if you don’t have a job and you can’t drive, i’ll be disappointed. please remember that bleaching random strands of your hair will never be a good look on you. i hope you finally understand maths a little bit better (i kind of do, i think). by this time, hopefully you will have found people you can be yourself around and i’m sorry i spent such a long time trying to hide myself, and don’t worry about the boy who called you weird, after four years, you’ll probably remember it as a compliment. i hope you find your voice sometime, and i hope you speak a little louder, have more confidence. hopefully you will learn to appreciate a lot of things including the people in your life. i know i haven’t done a great job doing that and for that, i apologize. i hope you will have finally thrown out that pair of black jeans that i can’t stop wearing even though it’s way too holey. you better still be writing. i hope you will have learnt to let go of the negative people in your life, and that your best friend will still be your best friend (she is). to my seventeen year old self, i hope you’ll get to laugh and love and live more than i have so far. i have heard that it gets better, so i hope you’re in the better, but most of all i hope you’re still alive (i am). with love, fourteen year old jyrmie
