NATIONAL MOURNING I really would like the government to give - TopicsExpress

NATIONAL MOURNING I really would like the government to give clear guidance as to when National Mourning will be declared and as to who is entitled to it. There seems to be great inconsistency on this matter. We saw a few months ago two missionaries Jay and Katrina Erickson, who died in a plane crash being accorded a period of National Mourning. Not to long ago we saw a District Commissioner on the Copperbelt by the name of Mrs. Beatrice Miti being given a period of National Mourning. I am not saying these people did not deserve National Mourning but merely seek clarification on the criteria used to make such declarations. There have been several omissions in the declaring of periods of a National Mourning the latest which was for the gallant Airforce personnel who died in a plane crash and were buried today. These were Major-General Muliokela Muliokela and Colonel Brian Mweene together with another Airforce personnel. What is surprising is that Major-General Muliokela was the Deputy Air Commander and yet his Commander in Chief (President Sata) did not find it fitting to declare National Mourning for this very high ranking commander who died in the course of duty. If a person in charge of a district of Zambia can have national mourning declared for them and two young missionaries can have the same, surely a person who looked after our entire airspace Defence was worthy of consideration along with his fallen colleagues to having National Mourning declared. Since their Commander in Chief, President Sata, was fit enough to attend to his personal civil court case yesterday, the least he could have done as Commander in Chief was to have attended their funerals or at least shown up at the funeral houses. With or without national mourning I, and I believe many others, personally mourned the loss of these gallant men. R.I.P
