NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE has now Upgraded Winter Storm Watch to a WINTER STORM WARNING for Larimer County. The storm will arrive a bit later than originally anticipated and now appears the snow will not begin until late morning/early afternoon tomorrow, Sunday May 11th. Snow forecasted could be enough to break tree limbs and/or damage power lines, especially in the foothills and mountain locations. Winds that will accompany the storm along with the wet snow could make visibility reduced and travel very difficult. Spring snow, even in the month of May, is common along the front range and this will be great moisture for our area... but stay aware of changing conditions. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DENVER HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM SUNDAY TO NOON MDT MONDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. * TIMING...RAIN MIXED WITH SNOW IS EXPECTED TO TURN TO ALL SNOW FROM NORTH TO SOUTH ACROSS THE FRONT RANGE URBAN CORRIDOR BY MID TO LATE SUNDAY MORNING. SNOW WILL THEN CONTINUE SUNDAY NIGHT BEFORE DECREASING MONDAY MORNING. * SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...4 TO 9 INCHES. * WIND/VISIBILITY...SNOW COMBINED WITH NORTHEAST WINDS UP TO 30 MPH MAY REDUCE VISIBILITY TO A HALF MILE OR LESS AT TIMES. * IMPACTS...THE HEAVY WET SNOW MAY ACCUMULATE SUFFICIENTLY ON LEAFED OUT TREES TO BREAK TREE LIMBS...CAUSING POWER OUTAGES. IF TRAVELING SUNDAY NIGHT OR EARLY MONDAY MORNING...EXPECT SLUSHY ROADS AS TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW FREEZING. A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR HEAVY SNOW MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW ARE FORECAST THAT MAY BREAK TREE LIMBS AND CAUSE POWER OUTAGES.
