NATURE PROGRAMS & HIKES - THANKSGIVING WEEK NOVEMBER 24 - 28, 2014 (Nature Center and Nature Center Gift Shop will be closed Thanksgiving Day. The park will remain open.) MONDAY, 11/24 10:00 am CREEKFIELD NATURE HIKE - 1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1 hour 2:00 pm TURKEY TIME! (IP)– Learn about the natural history of the season’s most popular meal. 5:00 pm NATURE HIKE - Meet at the 40-Acre Lake rest rooms for a 1-mile guided hike through forest, prairie and wetland. TUESDAY, 11/25 8:30 am BIRD WATCHING FOR BEGINNERS – Learn the basics of bird watching, including how to use binoculars, then take a half-mile walk to watch birds. 10:00 am CREEKFIELD NATURE HIKE - 1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1 hour 1:30 pm ANIMAL TALES (IP) – All About Owls – Listen to the book followed by show, tell and touch. 3:30 pm CREATURES OF THE NIGHT SLIDE SHOW (IP) – Don’t be afraid of the park after dark. Learn to identify common nocturnal noises. WEDNESDAY, 11/26 9:00 - 9:30 am WILDLIFE VIEWING – Meet at the Elm Lake viewing platform in the Elm Lake picnic area to view through a high powered scope. Bring binoculars if you have them. 10:00 am CREEKFIELD NATURE HIKE -1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1.5 hours 11:30 am “A” IS FOR ALLIGATOR (IP) – Bring your child for a fun ABC game. Make a toothy alligator craft. 3:30 pm OWLS, FROM HEAD TO TALON (IP) – Learn about their adaptations that allow them to hunt successfully after dark. Identify native species. NATURE CENTER CLOSED THANKSGIVING DAY – PARK REMAINS OPEN FRIDAY, 11/28 8:30 am GUIDED BIRD WATCHING HIKE – Meet at the 40-Acre Lake rest rooms. Bring binoculars. 10:00 am CREEKFIELD NATURE HIKE -1/2 mile, paved trail, approximately 1.5 hours 11:30 am STORY TIME (IP) – Listen to a book about turkeys then make a turkey craft. 1:30 pm THE SPECTACULAR WORLD OF SPIDERS (IP) – Don’t be like Little Miss Muffett. Learn the facts about these amazing arachnids. 3:30 pm GOTTA HAVE GATORS! (IP) – Learn how they play more than one key role in the health and survival of their native wetlands.
