NAVARINO NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION MEETING MINUTES June 10, 2013 *Navarino Neighborhood Association advocates literacy, embraces the diversity, and promotes Navarino as a great family neighborhood.* In attendance: Board members: Nancy Boeddicker, Ann Hartman, Ken Kasten, Cindy Mills, Tom & Monica Pecor, Tonissa VerHaagh Also attending: County Supervisor, Erik Hoyer, Officer Paul Van Handel, Judy Adamini, Steve McCarthy Meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM at NeighborWorks by President Ann Hartman Last meeting minutes were approved by all Treasurer Linda Bosetski was unable to attend but sent message that balance remains same as last month - $1,127.00. Insurance papers need to be filled out. This Wednesday, June 12, 2013 is the first ‘Stories in the Park’ for the 2013 summer series. Bishop Morneau will read the book. Erik Hoyer volunteered to read Wednesday, August 14, 2013. County Supervisor, Erik Hoyer reported on the following updates: 1. Upon pending approval of the board, Brown County Golf Course will have some renovations 2. There will be an addition to the zoo-“Adventure Park” which will have a 800 ft. zip line. Construction is hoped to start this fall 3. The downtown Brown County Library will have the sidewalk area currently in front of the library to be fenced off for a children’s court pending on fundraising 4. Approval of the Drug Court to continue seeing individuals with addiction problems to help them on to a better track along with help in seeking jobs. They are looking to expand to a “Mental Court” as well, with the personal support that is needed. Officer Paul Van Handel reported burglaries in the 1100 block of Cherry and one on Pine Street. There are no reports thus far this summer regarding the ‘Knock ‘em out” gang issue. He discussed the previous statistics report he submitted at the March meeting which showed improvement in the Navarino Neighborhood. He also stated that the weekly walks have had a direct impact in reducing crime. As of July 1, 2013, 64 gallon bins for recycling must be used. The smaller recycle bins may no longer be used. Next year there are plans to use 96 gallon garbage bins for automated pick-up The 11th annual ‘Kids Day’ will take place on June 25, 2013. You can also visit them on Facebook “City of Green Bay Recreation Department” Nancy Boeddicker met with the Park Department regarding the grant that was given to Navarino Neighborhood for an ‘INFORMATIONAL SIGN” that hopefully will have a place in the new Navarino Park. According to the Parks Department, the following conditions must be met. 1. There will not be any commercial signage or sponsors anywhere on the sign. 2. The content will be placed under lock and key. This sign is still waiting for the final approval and the committee will notify Nancy after their meeting on July 10th. It was noted that a light on the sign might be a good idea. Lighting in the new park was also discussed. It was agreed that there should be lights in the park to promote a safe park area. It was mentioned to have a dedication of the informational sign at the August Annual meeting Ann reported that the Parks Department will have someone at the annual meeting to discuss the future plans for the new park. The ‘Plant and Bake Sale’ fundraiser to be held in the parking lot of The Glass Haus on June 22nd from 8am to noon was discussed. Cindy will bring plants to sell. We are looking for volunteers to bring cookies and bars to sell. Ann will bring bottled water to sell. Tom will make a sign to be placed on the corner. President Ann Hartman stated that we need to get a newsletter printed and distributed to the Navarino residents before the annual meeting. The Annual Navarino Neighborhood Association Meeting will take place on August 7, 2013 at 6pm at the current Navarino Park. Cindy Mills mentioned an idea of a possible ‘block party’. More discussion will follow at the next meeting.
