(NB) Monday morning early thread..... The Cowboys believe that cornerback Morris Claiborne tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Sunday nights win over the Saints, owner and general manager Jerry Jones said.(ESPN) The 49ers got tight end Vernon Davis back in the lineup for the start of their game against the Eagles after he missed Week Three, but Davis wasn’t able to make it all the way through the contest.(PFT) ***Back spasms yikes*** Tony Romo threw three touchdowns passes -- two to Terrance Williams -- and DeMarco Murray ran for a pair of scores in another 100-yard game and the Dallas Cowboys beat the New Orleans Saints 38-17 on Sunday night.(ESPN) ***Heres hoping Murray doesnt break*** Teddy Bridgewater performed very well in his first career start Sunday, picking apart the Falcons defense on his way to a 317-yard passing day with 27 more yards on the ground and a rushing score. And it could have been even better if Bridgewater didnt miss most of the fourth quarter due to an ankle injury. X-rays were negative, but more will be known about his injury following an MRI, which is reportedly scheduled to take place tonight. Bridgewater suffered the injury during a 1-yard run deep in Atlantas territory with about 11 minutes left in the game. He stayed on the field to complete a two-point conversion to tight end Rhett Ellison. Bridgewater was then seen getting carted back to the locker room. However, Bridgewater returned to the sidelines for the last few minutes of the Vikings 41-28 victory. Christian Ponder was under center for the rest of the game and didnt attempt a pass. Bridgewater will need to heal quickly as Minnesota will travel to Green Bay to face the Packers on Thursday night(FFtoolbox) Frank Gore caught a career-best 55-yard touchdown and ran for 119 yards in his first 100-yard game this year, leading the San Francisco 49ers past Philadelphia 26-21 on Sunday to hand the Eagles their first loss.(ESPN) ***From Fantasy Sharks*** 10 Names You Should Know - Week 5 Eric Hartvigson 1) Dwayne Allen – TE – Colts; With so many tight end’s gone missing (Vernon Davis, Kyle Rudolph, Jordan Reed, Jordan Cameron) Dwayne Allen’s name continues to surface as a “must own.” An exceptional blocker with plus athleticism, Allens upside is obvious. He’s an every down player, including the red zone looks in which hes scored 3 touchdowns in the past three weeks. He also plays alongside the best young quarterback in the game. The problem is Allen is too good of a blocker, constantly aiding a subpar offensive line. Meanwhile, Luck is finding the “open” receiver, spreading the ball to nine different players the last two weeks, including fellow tight end Coby Fleener. Through four games Allen has averaged an unstainable one touchdown every five targets (3 touchdowns on 15 targets). Buyers beware as Allen is a very low TE1 that will disappoint when the touchdown is missing. 2) Eli Manning – QB – Giants; Last season Eli Manning fell on his sword after throwing 27 interceptions compared to only 18 touchdowns. During the preseason and into week one Eli’s struggles were highly publicized, leading many to question if the end was near. The Giants claimed it was the growing pains of learning new OC Ben McAdoos version of the West Coast Offense. Fast forward four weeks and Eli is now ranked 7th in fantasy scoring, proving once again he has Manning blood pumping through his veins. Next up for the Giants are the Falcons, Eagles and Cowboys. Dropped in many leagues, it’s time to hunt through that waiver wire and swoop him up as an ascending QB1. 3) Larry Donnell – TE – Giants; Along with the resurgence of Eli, predraft unknown tight end Larry Donnell is also benefitting from the West Coast Offense, notorious for highlighting the tight end position. At 6’6” and 265 pounds, Donnell is a perfect over-the-middle target showing he can dominate in the red zone. Still available in many leagues, Donnell is a must-add with mid/lower TE1 value. 4) Charlie Whitehurst – QB – Titans; For years the quarterback play in Tennessee has been atrocious, and 2014 is no different. After struggling through the woes of Jake Locker, Justin Hunter and Kendall Wright are now subject to check-down-Charlie Whitehurst. The silver lining is tight end Delanie Walker, who makes his living in check-down territory, should see an uptick in production. I dropped Hunter two weeks ago and Kendall Wrights value is all but sunk. 5) Keenan Allen – WR – Chargers; We knew it was only a matter of time before Keenan Allen broke out. This week he sliced up the inferior Jags secondary posting 10 receptions for 135 yards. While Eddie Royal has become the TD vulture, scoring four times over the past two games, Royal can’t continue to hoard all the big plays. With the Jets and Raiders next on the schedule, sunny days are ahead for Allen. This is a prime example of never selling low. 6) Blake Bortles – QB – Jaguars; It’s amazing what a quarterback insurgence can do for a team. Replacing the inept Chad Henne, rookie sensation Blake Bortles instantly breathes new life into the Jags offense. With Marqise Lee and Cecil Shorts hobbled, both Allen Hurns and Allen Robinson are worth a roster spot (my money’s on Hurns). We can also group Teddy Bridgewater and Mike Glennon into this conversation as evidenced by their performances this weekend. 7) Miles Austin – WR – Browns; Remember this guy? Before going on a bye, Miles Austin had back-to-back touchdown games, quietly ascending to the Browns #1 WR (although out targeted by Andrew Hawkins). Brian Hoyer is no Tom Brady, but proved last season he is capable of feeding his top target. Amidst the byes, and with a soft upcoming schedule, Austin has solid spot-starter potential as a lower WR3. 8) Calvin Johnson – WR – Lions; As a Johnson owner, this is getting a little annoying. My first round pick is now ranked 11th in WR scoring, being outscored by the likes of DeAndre Hopkins and Eddie Royal. This week he was used as a “decoy,” leaving many fantasy owners high and dry (Stevie Johnson on my bench would have picked up the win). Of course, this is nothing more than a rant to make myself feel good, as Calvin is a must-start every week he takes the field. Unless I’m offered LeVeon Bell or Marshawn Lynch, it’s ride or die with Megatron. 9) Martellus Bennett – TE – Bears; As Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery gimp through some minor injuries, Jay Cutler has made Martellus Bennett a target monster, peppering him with red-zone looks. Also note that head coach Marc Trestman comes from the Bill Walsh coaching tree, leaning heavily on the tight end position. Bennett is now a locked-and-loaded TE1 all day every day. 10) Mark Sanchez – QB – Eagles; Laugh if you want to, but as a “statue” quarterback Nick Foles has been taking some huge shots every week, often seen gimping around after the play. Let’s not forget Sanchez showed signs of brilliance during the preseason, sparking trade rumors. Any quarterback chucking the ball 40+ times in the Chip Kelly offense deserves our consideration. By no means is Sanchez an immediate add, but he should be firmly planted on your “watch list” should Foles succumb to injury.
