NBA Stars Injury May Take Longer to Heal Than Anticipated: IL Podiatrist Is the recovery prognosis for Kevin Durant a little too rosy? It is according to the team podiatrist for the Chicago White Sox. Dr. Lowell Scott Weil, Sr. said the NBAs reigning Most Valuable Player could be sidelined closer to 10 to 12 weeks while recovering from Jones fracture surgery. The Thunder said Durant will be re-evaluated in six weeks after undergoing surgery Thursday. “Because the fracture forms over time, and Durant is unsure of when it occurred specifically, theres really no telling how severe it is and how long it will take to heal,” said Weil, president of the Weil Foot and Ankle Institute. “Theres a good chance he has been playing on a fractured foot for a few weeks, which could significantly lengthen his recovery.” The worst thing Durant could do, Weil said, is return too soon. “Ive seen this before with professional athletes,” he said. “Theres a lot of pressure from the media, the fans, and even the coaches. If he starts playing again before hes fully healed, he could risk being out the whole season. Its just not worth it.” Source: Darnell Mayberry, The Oklahoman [10/17/14]
