NBA schedule 2014: Grizzlies-Rockets highlights Wednesday’s slate : Source: SBNation – All Posts:– Marc Gasol and Dwight Howard will face off Wednesday night in a marquee matchup between Memphis and Houston. The NBA serves up another strong slate of games Wednesday night, highlighted by a marquee matchup between the first-place Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets. Those two give up fewer points than anyone else in the league, so expect a defensive battle as Memphis looks to hold onto its spot atop the West. The Grizzlies and Warriors are currently tied for the top spot in the conference with matching 15-2 records, while the Rockets sit two games back at 13-4. Golden State is off Wednesday, so the Grizzlies have a chance to take back sole control of the No. 1 seed with a victory. When Memphis and Houston last met on Nov. 17, the Grizzlies absolutely dominated in a 119-93 beatdown of the Rockets. “They just beat the hell out of us,” Houston coach Kevin McHale said afterwards. Here’s to guessing the Rockets look to put forth a much better showing at home. That’s one of just 10 games set for Wednesday night, so let’s take a look at the full schedule: The appetizer Spurs at Nets, 7:30 p.m. ET On Nov. 11, 1997, Tim Duncan and the San Antonio Spurs played Kevin Garnett’s Minnesota Timberwolves for the first time. Over 17 years, countless All-Star appearances and several championships later, Wednesday night might represent the final matchup between Duncan and KG, arguably the two greatest big men of their generation. San Antonio and Brooklyn don’t play again this season, and while it’s not a sure thing, Garnett seems likely to retire at the season’s conclusion. For those of us who grew up watching the likes of KG and Duncan battle for the title of “world’s best forward,” this is going to be one to watch. That means a heavy focus on the matchup in the middle, where Marc Gasol and Dwight Howard will fight to match one another in a battle of post moves, pick and rolls, and rim protection. Considering the smackdown that Memphis laid upon Houston the first time the two teams played this season, expect a charged up Rockets team on their home floor. TV: NBA League Pass, Turner Sports South, CSN Houston More on this game: Grizzly Bear Blues | The Dream Shake The dessert Magic at Clippers, 10:30 p.m. ET The Clippers have been rolling and blow the Magic’s roster out of the water, but Orlando has quietly been pretty competitive of late. The team upset the Suns, 93-90, in Phoenix on Sunday, then nearly beat the Warriors on Tuesday at Oracle Arena before a miraculous Stephen Curry buzzer-beater. That’s two strong performances against Western Conference contenders in two games, and it offers up some hope that the team could break though with another Wednesday against Los Angeles. Nobody is betting on the Magic, but this late game could turn out to be pretty entertaining.
