Thoughts churned & floated... Deep down within, she was aware of her doomed destiny, the lost childhood, forgotten maps, innocence, crumpled & discarded ~ only to be used, satiated, consumed by the inhabitants of the night, who came crawling at her doorstep. Dark clouds gathered over a pale blue sky, the canvas was softly punctuated with a couple of colourful kites, one encircling, entangling the other, they formed delicate lines & scribbles before vanishing within the evening haze. In the distance, there were new sky scrapers, towering upwards, over shadowing the old ones. She thought of them as invincible concrete villains with veins of steel, dressed in glass & cement. They seemed like grey vertical monsters all set to devour the withered cluster of shanty, that rested at its feet with a sense of unease. She found herself within a city that suddenly seemed alien, unfriendly like a rude stranger, unwilling to acknowledge her presence, almost mocking at her dwarfed existence. She felt like a fading song, the one that was dead within peoples memories, invisible like a ghost... yet without drowning within the evening, she got up to get ready for it... Dressed in a pink Georgette Sari with brightly printed yellow sun flowers, a carefully padded bra giving hope to her long sagging breasts, an uneven coat of paint on her lips, some even spilling over onto her teeth, some smudged by the edges, a line of thick kohl underneath her moist, empty eyes with few veins of red swimming within the pool of whiteness, a gold purse clutched within her arms, a broken sandal with dangling straps ~ She stepped into the Bazaar of Love. Her feet crushed the littered ground, used condoms, last nights mogra, the fresh spit of the paan, dead ash from skeletal incense sticks, fish bones ~ She walked along the debris of time, before fading within one of those crowded streets, the narrow lanes.
