NBC IS INVITING ASPIRING WRITERS TO SUBMIT SHORT VIDEO PITCHES! NBC Seeks TV Comedy Talent for New ‘Playground’ NBC aims to find fresh comedy voices through a talent-search initiative dubbed “Comedy Playground.” TV PILOTS/DEVELOPMENT SCORECARD: Follow all of the development action during upfront season The Peacock is inviting aspiring writers to submit short video pitches for original comedy projects to the website NBCComedyPlayground starting on May 1. An advisory board of NBC-affiliated comedy talent will help execs select up to 10 finalists who will receive funding to produce a presentation. The two winners selected will see up to five episodes of their show produced for airing on NBC in summer 2015. But the presentations of all finalists will be made available on the NBC Comedy Playground website. Viewers will be encouraged to vote for their favorite project to be developed as a digital series. The Comedy Playground effort is part of NBC Entertainment prexy Jennifer Salke’s effort to find creative ways to develop new material for the network, something she has said is a priority for her department. “We are taking a bold, alternative approach in what we hope will uncover original comedy minds who are looking for a way to get into the television business,” said Salke. “We love that an incredible A-list roster of producers, writers and performers have jumped in to help us find that untapped talent. We are so thrilled we have our traditional process at NBC and that we will also have fun with this new creative process.” NBC is inviting entrants to submit two video samples of prior work, running 5-10 minutes apiece, and two video pitches for original projects running 2-5 minutes apiece.
