NCA Chairman Dr. Abdullah Abdullah Meets with British Senior Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs, Hon. Mrs. Sayeeda Hussain Warsi November 7, 2013 - Kabul, Afghanistan On November 6, NC A Chairman Dr. Abdullah Abdullah met with Hon. Mrs. Sayeeda Hussain Warsi, Senior Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs at the British Foreign Office and accompanying delegation. In this meeting, while discussing a wide range of issues, Senior Minister of State Sayeeda Warsi sought the views of NCA Chairman Dr. Abdullah on the upcoming Afghan presidential and provincial council elections, as well as various possible scenarios which may arise during the electoral process. Dr. Abdullah stressed that holding transparent and inclusive elections was necessary for ensuring sustainable stability in the country, and a peaceful and democratic transfer of power would be in the interest of the Afghan people, the region and the world. While referring to his recent meeting with President Karzai to discuss the elections, Dr. Abdullah highlighted that stability and prosperity in Afghanistan would be dependent on a credible and transparent electoral process acceptable to the Afghan people. He stated, “In this critical juncture, we deem it our responsibility to ensure the faith and confidence of the Afghan people in the electoral process, which was necessary for ensuring a legitimate and effective administration that would successfully address the challenges of the country. Dr. Abdullah further added that by bringing security and stability in Afghanistan, the region and the world would be directly investing in the combat against global terrorism and corruption. The peace loving people of Afghanistan were in the front lines against these two menaces. The British Foreign Office Senior Minister of State Mrs. Warsi and accompanying delegation stressed their Government’s unconditional support for a free, fair, democratic and transparent electoral process in Afghanistan, as well as their readiness to provide relevant technical assistance for the upcoming polls. She further expressed her hope that by achieving successful political and security transitions in 2014, Afghanistan would emerge as self reliant in all areas. Dr. Abdullah noted that more important than who would emerge victorious in the elections, it was crucial for the country to witness a credible electoral process in which democracy would be further institutionalized.
