NCAA CROSS COUNTRY NEWS - Laredo,Texas TAMIU Cross Country True Freshman Rebekah Hernandez has captured the imagination of the Cross Country circuit across all of NCAA running. Texas A&M International University based in Laredo,Texas announces a remarkable achievement for the former Laredo Alexander Bulldog UIL ALL State Cross Country runner. The True Freshman is now running cross country for TAMIU and they announce in a press release this afternoon the following : The Heartland Conference has taken notice of Texas A&M International University freshman Rebekah Hernandezs record-breaking runs this season, voicing that notice through its weekly honors. The league announced Hernandez as the Heartland Conference Runner of the Week on Monday after the Laredo, Texas, native finished seventh overall (5th among attached runners) at the Metro State University 5th Annual Roadrunner Invitational at Washington Park in Denver, Colo., on Saturday. Indeed, Rebekah Hernandez a gifted scholar, and athlete has taken NCAA DII Cross Country by storm this season. While many NCAA D1 universities had offered her a academic and athletic scholarship. Hernandez decided to join TAMIU Cross Country under the direction of Coach Benny Rodriguez. In her 7th place finish Saturday at the Metro State University 5th Annual Roadrunner Invitational . Hernandez out paced and out ran all of her conference competition at the event. Speculation arises as she is clearly the top runner, and she is just starting her NCAA DII cross country career. *(TAMIU DOES NOT HAVE TRACK & FIELD) As the conference meet approaches with in two weeks. The race in Denver is where the regional NCAA DII will take place. Smart thinking by Coach Rodriguez in getting his men and ladies teams familiarized with the course , and the adjustment to the high altitude for Denver. Rebekah in an interview after the race on Saturday said the training in Laredo helped us (TAMIU RUNNERS) for the adjustment in altitude. Record setting fall for Hernandez and TAMIU Cross Country in 2014 showcases the tremendous cross country, and long distance runners from Laredo high schools in NCAA Cross Country and Track & Field . Currently there are five Laredo former cross country runner and from Alexander High School in NCAA DI Cross Country and Track & Field that Coach Mendoza at Laredo Alexander has sent in his high school coaching career . Alexander has sent nine runners to NCAA DI and NCAA DII universities with scholarships. Rebekah Hernandez is the latest as the phenom long distance runner is setting the NCAA Cross Country circuit on fire with her performances in the fall of 2014.
