NECO NOVELLAS Live - VENERDI 8 AGOSTO - ORE 21:00 - Neco Novellas Biography - Born and raised in Mozambique-Maputo. The story of Necos musical carrier is one best told as a family portrait. Neco became familiar with classic, jazz and pop music via church, the National radio of Mozambique, and traditional African music within his family. He sought a formal music education and attended the Academia de Musica Eborense and Universidade de Musica de Evora in Portugal (1996-2001) to study classical guitar and vocal technique. During this period Neco produced and recorded his first solo CD ’Ngonane mi sinha’ recorded in Portugal released in Mozambique by Vidisco. Neco travelled across Africa and Europe. On a visit to Holland, he fell in love with the Codarts Rotterdam Conservatory of Music, where he continued with his studies in Classic music but also Jazz and World music. In 2004 Neco united with two brothers and two sisters in South Africa for the recording of his debut disc ‘Mita Famba’ produced by Attie Bauw released in Spring 2006 by Pink Records in Benelux. The band “Neco Novellas” was born. This CD ‘Mita famba’ can be seen as a source of the Novellas music, with colour full vocals and unique harmony of the Novela sisters Cidalia and Isabel as well the expressive articulation of the guitars and the bass lines of the brothers Nelson and Isildo Novela. The second original production ’New Dawn - Ku Khata’ produced by Neco Novellas, was recorded and released in October 2006 by World Connection in the Netherlands. It is a CD of transition in Neco Novellas’ music. The new Album ‘Munthu-Somebody’ has been released in September 2011 in Amsterdam. In this CD Neco uses his knowledge and curiosity to experiment with new sounds and composition techniques. Almost “unplugged” compared to the previous albums of Neco Novellas. He refers to this album as “World Jazz” and dedicates it to the Human Senses. The album ‘Munthu’ results and stands strong thanks to the extended number of great guests musicians such as: Drummer Lucas van Merwijk, trumpets Rob van de Wouw, pianist Rembrandt Frerisch, percussionist Bulu Viloria, and the Neco’s brothers Nello and Isildo Novela.
