NEED FOR CHANGE: NO MORE MONEY & LAMP FLAPS POLITICS Politics in Okapa has been transforming considerably. In those days, I still can recall how election campaigns are conducted. With big “loud hailers”, intending candidates will be travelling from places to places pleading and begging for our simple people to give them the mandate. Their pleadings and appealed often echoed from those big hailers. They wouldn’t want to skip an individual, family or village and even children (knowing that a vote counts). Every gatherings were usually complimented with big “mumus” and Lampflaps cartons. Besides, luring our people with thousands of kina has become a major “pull-factor” that had diverted their thoughts from the shallow political ideologies they have contained at their level. Some assumed that money luring is a pre-requisite for service delivery, but was cheap. Money and Lampflaps politics have significantly influenced their perceptions about modern politics just in the name of “Service delivery and Development”. Practically, “bush” politics that have misled our people during previous elections. Our people are NOT stupid, they are brilliant and can choose a leader who can deliver basic services. Enough is enough! Money and Lampflaps politics only put Okapa in a deteriorating state. We have witnessed in recent headlines. It’s about time all POs who have general knowledge and understanding of politics and political affairs to reach our people and educate them. At least, to provide a big picture of politics and let them choose the leader they believe would hear their cries, come 2017. Our constant anticipations and cries for service deliveries in our district is a consequence of what we have sown in the past. “We reap what we sow” It’s time for change. It’s time to develop and put Okapa on political landscape now. Our people need a vibrant and critical minded PO who has the eye, ears and hands for the people. A PO who can change the “bush” politics and set new standards to bring Okapa forward. We need big-time change come 2017…..
