NEUFC failed to deliver....it was billed as a do-or-die battle,a must win match for the home team ,but two snap goals in the first half deflated their balloon.......I guess the commitment was simply not there.....back in my younger days,I remember some epic Bordoloi Trophy,Independence Day Cup clashes involving teams like Assam Police,Oil India against much superior outfits......these valiant teams were more often than not the underdogs but spurred on by the home crowd,they used to play their hearts out and cause major upsets......it was nothing but BLOOD,TOIL,SWEAT AND TEARS......and ofcourse the resultant GLORY...... I do not see a Gilbertson Sangma or a Amal Phukan or a Kalimuddin on the horizon today.....I guess change is inevitable ,but for people like us who have seen both times,change is disconcerting........I dare say a full strength team of Assam Police of the seventies featuring Gilbertson Sangma,Tulendra Lahon,Sirajuddin Ahmed,Subir Chowdhury and Kalimuddin as goalkeeper and spurred on by last nights Sarusajai crowd would have demolished the Delhi outfit......
