NEW STRENGHT Seeing your weaknesses helps you turn them into new strengths. New strength plus existing strength makes you stronger than ever. It’s not easy to be told about our flaws, because we want to be admirable. Any effort to point out our flaws seems like an attack on our strengths. If we defend ourselves against the flaws, we protect our strengths, so we’ll still remain strong and not be seen as weak in the eyes of others. But is it a bad thing to be told of our flaws? Not always. When people point out our flaws, they are increasing our awareness of them. In some cases, their statements are not actually true, but in other cases, we do have flaws. Thankfully, the good news is that we can do something about those flaws. We can change our thinking and our actions so that those flaws won’t exist anymore. Furthermore, the flaw gets replaced by a new strength. Just imagine the growth we would experience if we listen to all criticisms and replace flaws with new strengths as we see them. Each replacement of a flaw with a strength makes us stronger, because the new strength plus existing strength is greater than just the existing strength. If we repeat the process, we would have a bunch of new strengths on top of the existing strengths. In time, we would be so strong in so many ways that our lives feel easy and carefree. If we were not to correct flaws, we would only have our existing strengths to depend on. We would be far weaker than someone who constantly replaces flaws with new strengths. This is why I like to tell everyone that there is no shame in learning of our flaws. It’s not like flaws are curses that stick with us forever, unless we do nothing. We can take action to turn those flaws into strengths. Looking at flaws is the first step in growing as an individual, not to mention a vital step. The slight disappointment of learning of our flaws is far smaller than the great joy from having many strengths. Strength that grows, instead of staying the same, can really propel us towards a happier life.
