NEW TRACK With a new event come a new course to learn and players fought through the high heat and humidity on Tuesday to try to get a lay of the land and learn the track at Jian Lake Blue Bay Golf Club. Players have agreed it will play long at 6,817 yards and also that the conditions are pristine. “I played the front nine. They told me the back nine was more like straightforward. The front nine, we had a lot of blind holes, like dogleg holes,” said Shanshan Feng. “So I played and it was playing a little bit long. But the good thing was the greens were kind of soft. Well, softer than I would expect. And then I would say I didn’t hit the balls that well today, but it’s just practice round and I’m getting warmed up. So getting ready.” Michelle Wie was impressed in her first look on Tuesday. “Played nine holes today on the golf course and was extremely impressed,” said Wie. “I asked when the golf course opened, because the course is in perfect shape. It’s incredible that the golf course opened maybe two months ago. It feels like it’s been there for a long time. It’s incredible what the staff has done. I’m excited to get started and I definitely want to come back.”
