NEW WILDLIFE PRESERVE GIVES WILDLIFE A SECOND CHANCE Rehabilitated wildlife in Cape Town have been given a second chance at life – with a new Wildlife Preserve established at a wine and country estate in Wellington. In a new partnership between the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Diemersfontein Wine Estate and CapeNature, a 9ha section of land on the Diemersfontein estate has been earmarked for rehabilitated wildlife rescued by the CoGH SPCA. Following a prescribed, ecological burn conducted at the estate by Cape Nature two weeks ago, in order to rejuvenate the renosterveld vegetation, a number of rehabilitated wildlife were released onto the estate on Thursday 11 December. The rescued wildlife included Rock Kestrels, Spotted Eagle Owls, Barn Owls, Large Spotted Genet triplets and a Grey Mongoose. These animals, cared for by the CoGH SPCA’s Wildlife Unit join an already happy pair of Grysbokkies, a number of angulate, mountain and parrot beak tortoises and many raptors who’ve already been released onto the estate in past months.
