NEW WILDLIFE PRESERVE GIVES WILDLIFE A SECOND CHANCE Rehabilitated wildlife in Cape Town have been given a second chance at life – with a new Wildlife Preserve established at a wine and country estate in Wellington. In a new partnership between the Cape of Good Hope SPCA, Diemersfontein Wine Estate and CapeNature, a 9ha section of land on the Diemersfontein estate has been earmarked for rehabilitated wildlife rescued by the CoGH SPCA. Following a prescribed, ecological burn conducted at the estate by Cape Nature two weeks ago, in order to rejuvenate the renosterveld vegetation, a number of rehabilitated wildlife were released onto the estate on Thursday 11 December. The rescued wildlife included Rock Kestrels, Spotted Eagle Owls, Barn Owls, Large Spotted Genet triplets and a Grey Mongoose. These animals, cared for by the CoGH SPCA’s Wildlife Unit join an already happy pair of Grysbokkies, a number of angulate, mountain and parrot beak tortoises and many raptors who’ve already been released onto the estate in past months. Thanks and commendation must be given to the residents and management of Diemersfontein for making this project a resounding success and ensuring the presence our wildlife for future generations.
