NEW WORLD CLASS HATCHERY A BOOST FOR LOCHAILORT COMMUNITY Dave Thompson, SNP MSP for Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch was delighted to attend the opening ceremony for Marine Harvest’s new Lochailort hatchery. The new world class smolt hatchery is the fifth established by Marine Harvest in Scotland, and will employ 12 people and is one of the largest of its kind in the world. Commenting on this, Dave said: “I was delighted to attend the opening of the Lochailort Hatchery which secures 12 local jobs in the area. “Marine Harvest employs over 350 people around Scotland, a good number of these in my constituency. Fish farming is a vital source of jobs in West of Scotland communities and on the Islands and I am pleased that the industry continues to expand. “Fish farming makes a significant contribution to Scotland’s booming Salmon exports, and this new Hatchery is part of a £80 million expansion which aims to take advantage of the huge international demand for Scottish Salmon.”
