NEWBRIDGE & DISTRICT ARE NEW INTER CLUB CHAMPIONS Weather conditions have been terrible all week with prolonged downpours of rain. Rivers are way out in the fields and many lakes have also flooded well out into fields. We did think about deferring the event but as 4 lakes which were no too badly flooded were found we decided to go ahead. Several clubs decided not to send teams as several roads were closed due to the flooding. In the end we had 23 teams of 4 which wasnt too bad in view of the conditions. Fishing was very patchy with some anglers catching from the start and others not getting a bite all day. We had expected fishing to be poor as pike don`t seem to take well in lakes where water levels have recently risen. In all the 90 plus anglers caught and released 144 pike to just over 10 lbs. Last year Newbridge & District Pike Anglers Club were just pipped for the title by the Slovakia Angling Club. This year they went one better in a tight 3 way finish. The results were 1st Newbridge & Dist Pike Anglers Club 14 pike for 52-01 Eugene McCabe, Dave Murphy, Albert McNamara and Jimmy Conway 2nd Ardee blow ins 17 pike for 49-11 Jody Kiernan, Sean Markey, Ronan Murray and Alan Heasley 3rd Dun A Ri Angling Club 16 pike for 49-03 Mark Kiernan, John Sheenan, Oaddy Dimbylow and Sean Dimbylow Last years winners the Slovakia Angling Club were next with 28 lbs The top 3 individual bags were 1st Jody Kiernan 9 pike for 30-07 2nd Eugene McCabe 7 pike for 25-01 3rd Sean Dimbylow 7 pike for 23-05 Results were calculated in Lynch`s Bar where Paddy Lynch kindly laid on huge quantities of soup and sandwiches.
