NEWS: Coaching visitors into #Gloucester The meet and greet scheme for coach parties coming to Gloucester has been met with a fantastic reaction from visitors. Since January more than 250 coaches with nearly 10,000 passengers have arrived at the Westgate Street coach park. More than 2,000 of those visitors were new to Gloucester and have expressed their delight at finding volunteers and tourism staff there to meet them. The scheme provides free parking for the coaches and a free meal for the driver. Visitors get the benefit of having information about what to do and where to go along with directions on how to get there. Council Leader, Paul James, commented: The scheme has got off to an incredible start and a great reception. We have had some fantastic feedback from the visitors about what a good idea it is and how helpful they have found it. Many of the coaches are arriving from locations with two hours driving of the city. Drivers say that one of the attractions is the free parking offered through the scheme. Now more marketing is planned to attract visitors from even further afield. Added Paul James: We have a number of major events taking place in the city later in the year including the massively popular Crucible at The Cathedral and our History Festival. The meet and greet scheme is an important contribution to the visitor experience and has already proved that it is very much valued. With Rugby World Cup 2015 to look forward to it is a vital component for the many additional visitors we expect to receive.
