NEWS FROM THE COUNSELING CENTER During the winter months, when the days are shorter and there is less sunlight, people can experience mood changes. Some people develop a condition known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Symptoms include decreased mood and energy, overeating and craving of carbohydrates, sleep problems, loss of interest in activities, difficulty concentrating and decision-making, and in some cases, thoughts of death or suicide. Escape the winter blues by increasing exposure to sunlight, exercising regularly, eating healthy, establishing a regular sleep pattern and doing some fun things. Anyone experiencing symptoms should contact the SHU Counseling Center at 264-7193 or [email protected].
