Rick Perry revealed a disturbing threat coming from the White House directed at several governors — Republican and Democrat alike. “I was a bit troubled today by the tone of the president,” he began, speaking at the Republican Governors Association Feb. 24. Perry was describing a meeting at the White House earlier that day between several governors and President Obama. “When you have governors, and we all compete against each other — we are the laboratories of innovation — and for the President of the United States to look Democrat and Republican governors in the eye and say, ‘I do not trust you to make decisions in your state about issues of education, about transportation infrastructure,’ — and that is really troubling,” he said. Perry expressed his own fears regarding Environmental Protection Agency restrictions choking off America’s energy production and a possible reduction in his state’s national guard. “As a matter of fact, he [Obama] said at that meeting, he said, ‘If I hear any of you pushing back, making statements about Washington spends too much money, you’ll hear from me,” he said, adding, “I’m highly offended by that.” _________________________________________________ I’d never heard of this memorial. State Officials to Oppose In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens Dear Florida activist, On March 5th, the House Education Appropriations Committee unanimously passed HB 851, a bill that would give illegal-alien students access to taxpayer subsidized in-state tuition. The measure, which has the support of House Speaker Will Weatherford, will next get a vote on the House floor. The average in-state tuition and fee costs at a four year state college in Florida is $25,334, or about $6,336 per year. For out-of-state students and illegal aliens, the cost averages $81,560 over four years, or about $20,390 per year. Therefore, under the bill, Florida taxpayers will provide every illegal-alien student an average of $14,054 per year. Florida Senate President Don Gaetz said hell oppose the measure if it reaches the Senate, but hasnt said whether hell block the bill from moving forward. Before the bill passed committee, it was amended to address one of his concerns - the large number of military bases and veterans in his district. The amendment would extend in-state tuition rates to the children of military families stationed in Florida. Governor Rick Scott last month said hell consider backing in-state tuition for illegal aliens. Scott had campaigned for governor in 2010 as a pro-enforcement candidate but backed away from his promise -- e.g., to make E-Verify mandatory for all Florida employers -- after he issued an executive order making E-Verify mandatory for state agencies and their contractors. Please contact your State Rep., Sen. President Gaetz and Gov. Scott and ask them to help defeat the in-state tuition bill. Instructions are included below. Contacting Your State Rep. Please call your State Rep. using the message below. Also please send an email by CLICKING HERE, selecting his/her name, and clicking on Email Representative which contains a web form. I am a constituent in your district who wants you to vote NO on HB 851, the in-state tuition bill for illeg al immigrants. Taxpayers should not be forced to pay over $14,000 per year for each illegal immigrants tuition. these difficult times, we have enough trouble putting our own kids through college. I will be watching carefully and I vote. Contacting Sen. President Gaetz Please call President Don Gaetz (850-487-5229) with the message below. Thank you for saying that you will oppose HB 851, the in-state tuition bill for illegal immigrants, if it reaches the Senate. Please also use the power of your office to block passage of the bill. As you told reporters, this bill disenfranchises immigrants who came here the right way. It also hurts taxpayers who will be forced to pay over $14,000 per year for each illegal immigrants tuition. In these difficult times, we have enough trouble putting our own kids through college. Contacting Gov. Scott Please call and email Gov. Rick Scott -- 850-488-7146 I am angry that you said youd consider backing in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. You are not the pro-immigration enforcement candidate you were in 2010 so I honestly dont know if I can support you this year. You can redeem yourself by publicly pledging to oppose HB 851 and reviving your 2010 pledge to make E-Verify mandatory for all Florida employers. Thanks in advance for your assistance! ________________________________________________________ A NOTE FROM REV. BUSTIN.
