NEWS OF ORTOM’S REJECTION BY INEC FALSE The news item which appeared on page five of the National Mirror newspaper of Thursday, 25th December, 2014 that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State, Chief Dr Samuel Ortom, has been rejected by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, is false, mischievous and a figment of the reporter, Tordue Salems imagination. It could be recalled that a similar story was circulated on the social media by an aide of one of the governorship aspirants of the APC in Benue State on 14th December, 2014 but it turned out to be false even as the current story which is a repitition that has emanated from the same source. Nothing of such has happened and at this moment both the state and national headquarters of the APC have denied ever receiving any communication from INEC on such a matter. It is unfortunate that the self seeking report claimed to quote a source in the office of the commissions Director of Organization, one Alhaji Abubakar Kari, without mentioning the source but deliberately dropping the name of the said director to give the misleading impression that he gave the information. The reporter who obviously wrote the report on inducement tried to bolster its credibility by referring to a court case but unfortunately found no order of court to rely upon to justify the rejection and that antic also fell flat on its belly. The lack of credibility of his report has been further exhibited by lack of confirmation of the authenticity or otherwise of the information which he claimed to have received from from the relevant information managers of either INEC or APC. Another claim that Chief Dr Ortom was a factional candidate is also not tenable as the APC in Benue State is one and an indivisible family led by Senate Minority leader Senator Dr George Akume. On the whole the report is at best anaemic, speculative, false, and baseless and as such should be disregarded.. The truth is that Chief Dr Ortom remains the APC governorship candidate in Benue State as reiterated by the state executive committee of the APC in its statement of 20th December, 2014. The statement jointly signed by State Chairman, Comrade Abba Yaro, Publicity Secretary, Baba Ayemti and Organizing Secretary, Titus Zam, and made available to journalists in Makurdi disclosed that the APC national headquarters in Abuja has already formally forwaded Chief Dr Ortom’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. This is to inform all members and supporters of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Benue State that Chief Dr Samuel Ortom is the duly nominated candidate of the party for the 2015 general elections, having met all the requirements of the party, they stated. His name has been formally forwarded to the INEC by the national headquarters of APC Abuja. According to the party chieftains it became necessary to issue the statement in order to put paid to the misinformation being circulated by certain people that the APC in Benue State has problems with the nomination process. They appealed to supporters and the general public to work hard for the success of Chief Dr Ortom and other APC candidates in the 2015 polls. Signed : Tahav Agerzua , Media Adviser, Ortom Governorship Organization.
