NEWS RELEASE July 24, 2014 For immediate release North, south business districts share 2014 lane improvement program Cold Lake, AB – The City of Cold Lake Commercial Lane Improvement Program is entering its third year with two stretches of commercial lanes scheduled for upgrades in 2014. The City tendered three paving projects to improve commercial lanes in Cold Lake. With prices coming in higher than expected, two of the paving projects will go ahead this summer. “Prices for paving work vary, but we are still meeting the program’s goal of improving a minimum of two lanes each year,” Cold Lake Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Nagoya said. “With all of the construction work in and around Cold Lake, a spike in prices was not completely unexpected.” The commercial laneways to be paved this year are: 1. The commercial lane running north off 43 Avenue, behind the Tim Hortons in Cold Lake South. 2. The commercial lane running parallel to Lakeshore Drive and 10 Street, between 6 and 7 Avenues. “The Commercial Lane Improvement Program is designed to steadily provide improvements to our business districts for the benefit of both the owners and their patrons,” Nagoya added. “The program is part of the City’s larger capital reinvestment strategy, which seeks to provide steady, incremental improvement to a variety of infrastructure while tackling larger projects on a priority basis. Programs such as this one help ensure our reinvestment is well rounded and measured to a pace that the local industry can meet.” The City of Cold Lake’s Commercial Lane Improvement Program began in 2012 with the goal of improving a minimum of two commercial laneways each construction season. Funding for the program is planned out to 2016 with a budget of $300,000 each year. - 30 - coldlake
