NEWS RELEASE June 7, 2013 Town of Milton announces official name of velodrome The Town of Milton is pleased to announce that Sport Canada has approved the permanent name of Mattamy National Cycling Centre for the Milton velodrome. The velodrome will be a legacy community facility that will serve as a venue for track cycling events as part of the TORONTO 2015 Pan/Parapan Am Games. “The velodrome will put Milton on the world map of cycling and bring our vibrant community to an international stage,” said Milton Mayor Gordon Krantz. “Just as importantly, the facility will provide a variety of recreational opportunities for the whole community and will be a legacy facility for years to come.” "We are proud to play such an integral role in the future of cycling in Milton," said Peter Gilgan, Founder and CEO Mattamy Homes. "The new cycling centre will be a hub for track cycling and outdoor riding for people of all ages in Canada." The Mattamy National Cycling Centre will include a 250-metre oval cycling track with banked corners and 1,500 permanent seats. It will also provide residents with access to recreation spaces that are non-cycling related, including a gymnasium, a three-lane, 300-metre walking/running track, fitness and conditioning facilities, a café and multi-purpose spaces. It is located on Tremaine Road within the future Milton Education Village site.
