Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has reiterated his commitment to ensuring that the health conditions of the people of Uganda, especially for the mothers and children are improved. The Premier said the NRM Government has created a favorable environment where effective universal health care is possible, adding that the country can achieve its health goals with the available resources and additional support from Development Partners. Dr. Rugunda made the remarks at Sheraton Kampala Hotel while launching a book authored and edited by Prof. Francis Omaswa and Lord Nigel Crisp with title, “African Health Leaders: Making Change and Claiming the Future” The Kings of Rwenzururu Kingdom Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere and Bwamba, Omundingya Lt.Col. Martin Kamya have reportedly held a one-on-one meeting this weekend. The meeting which was in Primrose Hotel in Mubende town was under the mediation of Minister for Defence Dr. Crispus Kiyonga. Sources privy to the kings meeting say it went well and could soon see tensions between the two kingdoms and their subjects lessen. Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura has been nominated by The Air Force department at the Air University in the US for an international honour as an alumna of the intitution, for distinguished service. A plaque engraved with his name and position will be permanently displayed at Air University’s International Officer School for future students and visitors to see. Interpol is tracking down an Iranian man said to be working under diplomatic cover in Nairobi but whose real mission is to try and free two terrorists sentenced to life imprisonment in Kenya, last year. An Interpol tracking which has been briefed to top security officials in Nairobi claims that attempts are being made to have the two Iranians released “by all means possible” following the arrest and subsequent imprisonment of the two Qods Force operatives in Kenya in May, last year. The two convicted terrorists, Ahmad Abolfathi Mohammed, 52, and Sayeed Monsour Mousavi, 53, were sentenced to serve life terms for planning attacks against Western targets in Nairobi and other cities, and for smuggling 15kg of explosives from Iran to Kenya. Liberian health officials are appealing to nurses and medical assistants not to go ahead with a national strike, as the Ebola epidemic continues. The National Health Workers Association wants an increase in the monthly risk fee paid to those treating Ebola cases. The risk fee is currently less than $500 a month, on top of basic salaries that range between $200-$300. Staff are now seeking a risk fee of $700 a month.
