Amid the alarming spread of Ebola in West Africa that has killed over 600 people, suspected cases of the disease have been detected in Democratic Republic of Congo DRC. Now, Ugandan health experts are vigorously monitoring the situation lest Uganda be affected. The permanent secretary in the ministry of Health, Dr. Asuman Lukwago said that the suspected cases were in Aruu and other parts or Northeastern DRC and that samples were being tested. He said, if the disease is confirmed, Uganda will send a medical team to work with the Congolese in a bid to control the deadly illness from there. Uganda and DRC have in the past been affected by Ebola, a hemorrhagic fever that has no known cure. Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone are suffering the effects of the disease since early this year. The tendency of public officers attending unnecessary trainings is a waste of government funds. Now, minister for works and transport, Abraham Byandala has warned them saying that they must follow the procedures of staff development in public service such that there is efficient and effective implementation of public policies. It has been revealed that senior managers recommend the same officers to attend workshops and training not giving opportunity to others. This was during a three day performance enhancement training workshop for the middle managers of the ministry of works. Police in Karamoja region has intensified operations on the female genital mutilation vice. In Moroto district, 13 people including suspected FGM traditional surgeons, victims and their parents have been rounded up, charged and sent to jail.
