NEWS UPDATES AT 8 O’CLOCK WITH ORANGE. Government has directed China National Offshore Oil Corporation Uganda Limited (CNOOC) to address complaints by its Ugandan workers that the company mistreats them. The Ugandan workers allege that the company overlooks their safety when it is deploying staff to dangerous environments such as water, and the firm brings in unqualified Chinese, who then frustrate the careers of highly qualified Ugandans. The workers also fault (CNOOC), for paying allowances to only expatriates. Government has launched the National Emergency coordination and operations center in commemoration of the International Day for disaster and risk reduction. Minister of state for relief and disaster preparedness Musa Echweru says the new center at the old postal building along Yusuf Lule road will be a National hub for early warning and coordination of mitigation, prevention, and timely response to emergencies. Kenya Airways employees in the Kampala office have called off strike. This comes after management agreed to a meeting today where they would address their grievances. They had laid down tools yesterday over low pay arguing that their counterparts working in Kenya are paid more and given better benefits as compared to them. They are demanding that the salaries are harmonized. The World health Organization (WHO) has warned that the Ebola epidemic threatens the very survival of societies and could lead to failed states. The outbreak, which has killed some 4,000 people in West Africa, has led to a crisis for international peace and security, WHO head Margaret Chan said. She also warned of the cost of panic spreading faster than the virus. Meanwhile, medics have largely ignored a strike call in Liberia, the centre of the deadliest-ever Ebola outbreak. Nurses and medical assistants had been urged to strike over danger money and conditions. RADIOCITY NEWS: BRINGING THE WORLD CLOSER TO YOU!
