NEWS UPDATES AT 9 O’CLOCK WITH ORANGE. Government has warned ministers against using the president’s name to conduct illegal directives. This follows the standoff resulting from the loss of 24 billion shillings in the botched Katosi road contract. Minister for works Eng Byabagambi canceled the contract with the Chinese company to build Katosi road which may result into a huge loss. Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has warned that ministers should start taking personal responsibility for their decisions should their decisions cause a financial loss to government. President Museveni has said that it is not government’s role to build places of worship or make contributions to certain programmes. The president while, speaking at the installation of the Ibanda district Khadi, asked churches and mosques to stop bothering him to make contributions to their projects saying it is not mandatory and that he has a lot to do. Government has been called upon to check traditional birth attendants’ (TBA) activities in rural and hard-to-reach areas on hills in order to reduce infant and maternal mortality rates. Sironko district health officer Dr. Peter Nabende says whereas it is vital to integrate TBA in aiding pregnant mothers far from health centres in delivery, they should be restricted from handling cases beyond their means. Police in New Zealand are hunting for a man who shot two people dead and injured a third at an unemployment office. The incident happened on Monday morning in the town of Ashburton, southwest of Christchurch. Residents in the area have been asked to stay inside at this time.
