NEWS Updates from the 2013 Mboho National Convention – Detroit, Michigan. MONARCH WANTS YOUTH TO BUILD A NEW SOCIAL ORDER. A Nigerian Monarch, His Eminence Edidem Ime D. Umoette (JP), the Oku Ibom Ibibio IV & Paramount Ruler of Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State has challenged today’s youth to rise up to the demands of today by building a new social order because the future belongs to them. He said though people say the youth are leaders of tomorrow, for him it is only responsible youths that can truly be called tomorrow’s leaders. No irresponsible youth, thug, kidnapper or armed rubber could lay claims to tomorrow’s leadership, he enthused. The Monarch made this assertion at the just concluded 8th Annual Convention of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio USA, Inc. held at Detroit Marriott Southfield, Michigan USA. Edidem Ime Umoette who was the special Guest of Honor at the occasion charged the Mboho members in the USA to always touch base at Nigeria and replicate the good things they are carrying out here in the USA. “I have come; I have seen what my children in USA are doing. I am pleased that you are doing well here and I urge you to extend the scholarship scheme to people at Akwa Ibom State” he advised. Quoting profusely from the Bible, the Monarch who is also a Gospel Minister listed the role of youths in community development to include helping in the spread of what he called transformational Gospel of Jesus Christ. Similarly, youths are to serve as agents of generational changes. “It is mandatory upon youth to share visions and relate same to the people in the community for common focus so as to create and give hope to people for future generation” Said the Paramount Ruler and patriarch of Ibibio people in Nigeria. He concluded that the combined strength of youth and wisdom of elders in a given community will guarantee total success and transformation. The youth at home and in diaspora must know and relate well with elders of communities, constituted authorities, government functionaries at all levels and group partners in the utilization of available resources. Earlier in his welcome address, the National President of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio USA Inc. Akparawa Silvanus Okon commended the King for honoring their invitation and thanked all members for standing by him through the “battles and issues” in the past two years of his administration. “On my part at the end of my tenure, I pledge to return the organization to the rightful place by working on programs and projects such as a community center here in the United States of America that will maintain the legacy of Ibibio culture” he assured members. Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio USA Inc. is registered as a non-profit non-political organization with many state governments and the United States’ Internal Revenue Services (IRS). MMI-USA Inc. has seven chapters with a mission to promote unity among its peoples, support community development projects, welfare and education of the youths.
