NEWS UPDATES: :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: ID MUBARAK: The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadan Mubajje has appealed to Muslims to denounce bloodshed. In his Eid Adhuha message to hundreds of Muslims gathered at the Old Kampala Secondary School playground, Mubajje dismissed the growing stereotype that Islam is a religion of terrorism. Mubajje also lauded the Uganda National Examinations Board’s decision to postpone exams that had been scheduled for today describing the move as a sign of respect for the Islamic faith in Uganda. Police deployed at a number of places where prayers were held and sounded a call for heightened vigilance. RURAL WOMEN’S DAY: Today is the International Day of Rural Women, first observed on 15 October 2008. This day recognizes the critical role and contribution of rural women, in enhancing agricultural and rural development, improving food security and eradicating rural poverty. Rural women participate in crop production and livestock care, provide food, water and fuel for their families, and engage in off-farm activities to diversify their families’ livelihoods. In addition, they carry out vital functions in caring for children, older persons and the sick. MASAKA ROAD ACCIDENT: An unestablished number of people are feared dead following an accident along Masaka Road at Mpugwe involving a Swift Bus Company bus. Initial reports indicate that a number of passengers injured were rushed to Masaka Hospital where scenes of wailing were reported. GANG-RAPE CASE: Zainab Mbabazi, the 23 year old young woman who was gang-raped by Pakistan investors has been admitted to one of the women protection center for psychological counseling by the Action Aid Uganda. The Action Aid program decided to move her to undisclosed location after Zainab reported that she was receiving death threats from unknown people while at Mulago hospital where she was undergoing treatment. Meanwhile, government has asked the Pakistan consulate to help the authorities in Uganda in identifying the other three Pakistan citizens who have since the incident, gone into hiding. BLASTS: The governor of Afghanistans Logar province has been killed during Eid prayers by a bomb blast inside an area mosque. Death toll expected to rise. The bomb had been hidden in microphone. Meanwhile, a bomb targeting Muslim worshippers has killed nine people n Iraq. IRAN NUCLEAR STAND-OFF: World powers are set to hold their first nuclear negotiations with Iran since Hassan Rouhani became the countrys president in August. Seen as a relative moderate, Mr. Rouhani has said he wants a deal on Irans nuclear programme within six months. No breakthrough is expected in the initial two days of talks in Geneva, but Irans foreign minister said he hoped a roadmap could be agreed. BLASTK MEDIA
