NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the name "Redskins" in a letter to Congress. Says the the names stands for "strength, courage, pride and respect" and "...has thus from its origin represented a positive meaning distinct from any disparagement that could be viewed in some other context." How in the heck can choose what he would like for the word to mean when its history dictates a complete opposite meaning to the affected culture? Do you think he would use the word in the presence of some Native American Tribal members? That is some BS!!
