NHC is issuing advisories on newly formed Tropical Depression Nine. Its centered at 5 a.m. EDT / 4 a.m. CDT over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico about 120 miles west-southwest of Campeche, Mexico, moving toward the east. Maximum sustained winds are 35 mph, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm later today or tonight. On the forecast track, the system will approach the coast of Mexican State of Campeche today and tonight and then move across the Yucatan Peninsula. The government of Mexico has issued a Tropical Storm Warning from Celestun to Frontera. Tropical storm conditions are expected there within in the next 24 to 36 hours. Total rainfall accumulations of 5 to 10 inches, perhaps as high as 15 inches, are expected across the Yucatan Peninsula. These rainfall amounts may produce life threatening flash floods.
