NHS People. You need to take 2 minutes to read if you joined the NHS Pension Scheme before 2008. You will be contacted about choice 2 soon, if not already. You will again be offered the choice to have your pension benefits given to you on the 2008 or 1995 pension scheme as you were a few years ago. From April 2015, everyone aged 47 or below will automatically be switched to the new NHS pension scheme with a retirment age of AT LEAST 68. This is also linked to the state retirement age so could mean you can not have your pension until a later age. The choice2 excersize is stating if you want to retain your current pension benefits, which will be crystalized (stay with me here) in April and be available to you as a smaller pension at either age 60 or 65. This will be a small pension based upon your contributions upto April 2015. You will then get a bigger pension at the state retirement age. You must seek advice on this (ideally from someone talented like me) to ensure youre making the correct decision for you. You get different amounts of money and benefits for the choice you make. You can use the NHS calculator to give you an idea of the potential either way. This is available at www . nhsbsa . nhs. uk / pensions - click on choice 2 -click on members information - scroll to bottom to see, in blue, choice 2 calculator. You must not procrastinate here, get it done! It will take 10 minutes but will give you the information you need to make an informed choice about your retirment planning which you can discuss with me or your own adviser. Brownie points for sharing with good people, so please do so. Its important that you and your colleagues (even if they dont use my service) are properly informed of their choices because at the end of the day....who wants to work to 70+! Get in touch.
