NIGERIA @54: REAL ISSUE; NO LEADER Relaxing @ a joint @about 10.00pm; 1st October 2014, a friend called from New Haven, connecticut, U.S.A expressing how impressed he is with President Jonathans independent day speech and seek to know why I did not commented on Nigeria @ 54. I swiftly averted the subject in diplomatic tune ...... relative to matters of contemporary developments. Worthwhile as it sound neighter my friend nor anyone else could establish a connection between the Presidents political & diplomatic speech and the reality of our nation-state. Agreed, President Jonathan is no God and couldnt have fixed all @ a time but frankly he did nothing different from his predecessor .... transformation in light of current national challenge and those of the past is not the over bloated road construction, unneeded proliferation of university, electricity and general infrastructural undertaken of government. The propaganda agents of president Jonathan have continuously major in minor; particularly the manner SURE-P is misrepresented to the world out there. Promoting an ego based & selfish driven programme like SURE-P at the expense of viable & efficient institutions of government such as FERMA, SMEDAN e.t.c amount to no progress. SURE-P only succeed in weakening the existing structures and render them useless. President Jonathan and the PDP government can only be proven to have been transforming nigeria with capacity and good intent if and only if practical and tenable effort is made to fight corruption and instil discipline. Unfortunately President Jonathan government is laced in corruption hence highly incapacitated for the real issue. Though no speech is good enough to justify nigerias failure thus far ..... all gratitute to the unchallengeable God for the forceful 54th year of nigeria coexistence.
