NIGERIA:::POLICE DISMISS EDO KILLER COP The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 5, Benin, Hashimu Argungu, has dismissed a police corporal, Amadi Idahosa, over the killing of a final year student of the University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu. Momodu was shot on May 27, along Textle Mill Road, Benin, allegedly by policemen led by Carol Afegbai, a Chief Superintendent of Police. Afegbai was the Divisional Police Office of Ogida Police Station until she was redeployed following the killing. A police source said Amadi, an orderly to Afegbai, was dismissed after an in-house trial. The source, who craved anonymity, said Amadi would face prosecution at the law court. The source added that Amadi was found to have killed Momodu, despite earlier claims by Afegbai that she shot the victim in the foot. Police had alleged that the late Momodu was an armed robber, who was shot in self-defence. The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Moses Eguaveon, said the police would not condone injustice. He said, “The matter is already being investigated and justice must be done. Whoever that is exonerated will be discharged. The public should watch out for justice.”....kay ohen
