NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 9 Preview As the show is this Sunday I thought Id write a bit of a preview for those of you that arent that informed on the New Japan product. This might be a longish post so I apologise if I drag on a bit. IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Title Four Way Match - reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle OReilly) (c) vs. Forever Hooligans (Alex Koslov & Rocky Romero) vs. Time Splitters (Alex Shelley & KUSHIDA) vs. Young Bucks (Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) This should be a fantastic opener. Four top class teams going at it. Sure, its going to be a spotfest but it should be done very well. Its the perfect match to get the blood pumping for the rest of the show. Welcome to the Superkick Party! Six Man Tag Team Match - BULLET CLUB (Bad Luck Fale, Jeff Jarrett & Yujiro Takahashi) vs. TenKoji (Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima) & Tomoaki Honma New Japan likes to include as many of its main roster on its main cards as possible so the undercards usually have a few 6 or 8 man tags on them. This should be a passable, if unspectacular, match. The non Bullet Club team are all veterans and Kojima and Honma are both good workers. Eight Man Tag Team Match - Naomichi Marufuji, TMDK (Mikey Nicholls & Shane Haste) & Toru Yano vs. Suzuki-gun (Davey Boy Smith Jr., Lance Archer, Shelton Benjamin & Takashi Iizuka) Another multi-man match. The first team is comprised of wrestlers from Pro Wrestling NOAH, another Japanese company. Marufuji is a top notch performer on par with KENTA and TMDK are a very good up and coming tag team. On the other team, Archer has one of the best looks in wrestling, Smith Jr is better than you remember and Benjamin is not. Should be decent. UWFI Rules Match - Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Minoru Suzuki The rules for this match are basically KO or submission only. Its going to resemble an MMA fight in many aspects. If that sounds good to you then you might get some enjoyment out of it. NEVER Openweight Title Match - Tomohiro Ishii (c) vs. Togi Makabe Im up for this. These two are like throwbacks to Stan Hansen and Bruiser Brody. If you like your matches stiff and brutal then this one is for you. Ishii has been having fantastic matches month in month out recently too. IWGP Junior Heavyweight Title Match - Ryusuke Taguchi (c) vs. Kenny Omega This should be another really entertaining match, albeit far different from the previous one. I really like Kenny Omega. The guy is a star waiting to happen. Taguchi is one of those very solid wrestlers, not flashy but never bad. He has been known to have great matches with the right opponent and this is one that has show stealing potential. IWGP Tag Team Title Match - BULLET CLUB (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) (c) vs. Hirooki Goto & Katsuyori Shibata Do you like old school NWA style roughhouse tag wrestling? Good. Gallows gets his chance to show WWE and TNA what they let go, Anderson gets to show once again that he is being overlooked by the US companies and Shibata gets to kick some people in the face. Hard. Also, Goto wears some of the baggiest trousers ever seen in a wrestling ring but never trips up on them. Thats talent. Singles Match - AJ Styles vs. Tetsuya Naito This is kind of like AJ Styles vs Japanese AJ Styles. So thats a good thing. Both men started off in the lighter weights before moving to the heavyweight divisions, both men are confident in high flying or technical wrestling and both men are excellent. This should be a cracker. IWGP Intercontinental Title Match - Shinsuke Nakamura (c) vs. Kota Ibushi Ibushi is one of those wrestlers that blows your mind the first time you see him. One of the most adept high fliers Ive ever seen, he has filled out his frame recently without losing that ability. Nakamura is something else entirely. He is one of the most charismatic wrestlers in the world, from his sleazy look to his in ring mannerisms, the guy has got it. Add this to the fact that his in ring skills are excellent and you have the complete package. This has the potential to be a classic and would be by far the most anticipated match on any card if it wasnt for.......... IWGP Heavyweight Title Match - Hiroshi Tanahashi (c) vs. Kazuchika Okada Im going to make the statement that this match will be a solid gold, 5 star classic. This is Flair-Steamboat, Austin-Rock, Michaels-Taker. They simply cannot have bad matches against each other. This is the best rivalry currently in wrestling by a long way. Tanahashi is possibly the best all round wrestler on the planet and Okada is the heir apparent. It still bewilders me that TNA had him and the best thing they could come up with was to make him Samoa Joes cameraman. Thats the booking capability of TNA for you. I hope they cry whilst watching this. Its going to be a blinder. If anyone has anything to add, feel free. Hope you enjoy the read.
