NO COWARD SOLDIERS SATURDAY SCRIPTURE TEACHING LESSON FROM THE LORD By Youth Pastor Derek Johnson @djphotoguy TOPIC: GOD WANTS YOU TO DIE!!! I have an announcement to make....GOD WANTS YOU TO DIE!!! I know, I know. Youre probably saying, But the Word says in John 10:10 ...that He is come that I might have life and have it more abundantly YES, God wants you to live abundantly, but first He has to kill you. WHY DO I HAVE TO DIE? Because if you dont die, you cant really live John 12:24 - Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. Referring to the process of seed growth or germination. A seed has a great deal of potential but no real purpose until it is planted. The seed is actually more important than the fruit that we eat (fruit rots away). If a seed is not buried to die (transform) in the ground it cant bring forth life. BIOLOGY LESSON - When a seed is planted it begins a process where it is no longer a seed, but a plant (Radical or roots shoot down, plumule or the stem shoots up out of the ground). AT ANY TIME REPLACE THE WORD SEED FOR ME. YOUVE GOT TO BE PLANTED (IN GODS WORD) SO YOU CAN DIE AND BECOME WHO GOD CALLED YOU TO BE. John 12:24 - The Word goes step further - Those who love their lives (their seed status) and refused to die, they will ultimately lose their lives. Those who hate their lives (yield to Gods will) will gain life. STOP TRYING TO BE A SEED (IMMA DO ME SYNDROME), BECAUSE GOD DIDNT INTEND FOR YOUR TO REMAIN A SEED FOREVER. DIE TODAY SO THAT YOU CAN LIVE TOMORROW. Because we follow the example of Christ Romans 6:3-11 - 3 Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.5 For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. 7 For he that is dead is freed from sin. We participate in the process of death unto life after the pattern of our Savior Jesus Christ. v4 - Buried with Him (old man put to death), walk in the newness of life (walking in the newness of life - suggests activity, vitality). v5 - Planted together...Seed reference AGAIN!! vv6,7 - Our old man MUST DIE in order to destroy the body of sin and the consequences of sin. Christ died but rose again with Power and Authority. If we submit ourselves to the same process well be made new and be given power and authority in our lives. HOW DO I DIE? Put the Flesh to death Colossians 3:3-10 - 3 For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. 4 When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. 5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: 7 In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. 8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. 9 Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; 10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him: v5 - Scripture begins to point to our need to mortify (put to death) our flesh and lustful desires. This is not a process of me or anyone else telling you what you can and cant do. This is a process of you (and all of us) taking on a NEW NATURE (Gods Nature) and seeking insight (instruction/wisdom) from God into how we should put our bodys to death. v10 - We die so we an become more like Him. The new man becomes wise and full of insight and more like the image of God (imago dei). vv12-17 - We replace the dead flesh with the clothing of a new man. Submit to Pruning John 15:1-6 - I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman. 2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit. 3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. 6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned. Lets take a look at why a gardener prunes and cares for a tree: Pruning is a general term which refers to selective removal of plant parts to obtain a desired growth or development response....and is done primarly to increase production of high quality fruit....Pruning is necessary to maintain tree health, vigor and productivity throughout the life of the plant. God prunes us to remove those dead habits, people and ways that could ultimately lead to our eternal death. The Word of God is the only thing sharp enough to cut away the things that mean us harm. We cant hold on to dead things just like a plant cant hold onto dead or dying branches because death spreads (gangrene). God is pruning the dead stuff off us so we can be strong and grow to become what Hes called us to be. Bearing fruit is what trees do. Bearing fruit allows the tree to continue indefintely. We are called to bear fruit and to continue the body of Christ until His return.
