NO NEW DOGS!!! I was quite adamant about that. I love Freddie and Fiona but the commitment to dogs, as opposed to cats, is more than I really wanted. I was quite happy to let Freddie and Fiona age gracefully, secure in their loving home, and let nature turn us into a cat only house. Then Meeka came to the shelter. She is an 8 or 9 year Beagle whose owner had died and no one else in the family would take her. I had taken her to an APL event (where we secretly shared a hamburger) and fell in love with her very sweet, even dainty, personality. Taking her back to the shelter that night was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do. I knew her entire world had been turned upside down and she couldnt understand what was happening or why. This is of course why we are now a THREE dog house (in addition to the 6 cats.) I may not be able to save every animal the finds itself in a shelter but I could save her- a senior dog whose adoption prospects were beyond bleak. Welcome home Meeka!!
