NOAH AMOS MAGGARD POUND, VA – Noah Amos Maggard, 91, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2014 with his children by his side. Amos was born December 8, 1922 in Burdine, KY and was the son of the late Charlie and Alta Maggard. In addition to his parents, Amos was preceded in death by his wife, Loretta Kiser Maggard, two brothers, Paul and Bruce Maggard, two sisters, Ernestine Maggard and Cleo Braman, one grandson, Christopher Haynes, daughter-in-law, Neena Maggard, and son- in-law, Dave Roberson. Amos is survived by his son Gary Maggard, and his three daughters, Dianne Roberson, Debbie Hartsock (Gary), and Kim Clingenpeel (Todd). Amos also leaves behind six grand- children, Tony Maggard, Paul Maggard, Paula Maggard, Darren Roberson, Brian Hartsock, and Laura Clingenpeel and six great-grandchildren, Anthony Maggard, Cole Maggard, Max Roberson, Parker Maggard, Hank Maggard and Elizabeth Maggard. In ADDITION, Amos is survived by his sisters, Marguerite Nowell and Annette Cobb, and one Brother, Carl Maggard. Amos served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of the Pound VFW Post 9600 where he was quartermaster for over 55 years. He was employed by the Virginia ABC Board and at retirement was manager the ABC Store in Pound, VA. Amos was a Christian and attended Hamilton Chapel Church in Pound, VA. Amos never met a stranger and enjoyed many activities including bowling, playing cards, Pitching horse shoes , and shooting pool with his many friends. He acquired the nickname of “Crow” due to his skill at playing Rook- he was one of the best. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at the Virginia Veteran’s Care Center (Alzheimer’s Unit), Lewis-Gale Medical Center, and Gentle Shepherd Hospice for their care and support of Amos and his family. Funeral services will be conducted at 7:00 pm Friday November 14, 2014 at Baker Funeral Home with Reverend Greg Cyphers officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until time of services. Pound VFW Post 9600 will conduct military graveside services at 11:00 am Saturday November 15, 2014 at the Dewey Cemetery-Pound, VA where grandchildren and great-grand-children will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home by 10:00 am to prepare to go in procession to the cemetery. Baker Funeral Home-Pound, VA is serving the family of Noah Amos Maggard.
