Sx ************************************************************* Pinetown residents are reeling with shock following a carjacking which has left a 52-year-old Hillcrest man dead. Two suspects allegedly held up and shot Gideon van Zyl as he was driving out of a property in Victory Drive, Ashley after dropping someone off there just after 5pm yesterday. They sped off in his Golf 5, leaving him wounded on the sidewalk. A local man, who was on scene shortly after the shooting, told us residents cannot believe what has happened. We got out there and, unfortunately, this gentleman was lying on the floor. So we started attending to him until such time that the paramedics arrived. And then they carried on the CPR. Unfortunately, they could not do much to help the poor man. It is a shock to everybody, he said. Van Zyls vehicle was recovered this morning. The suspects are still on the run.
