NOISEMAKERS AND CONTENDERS (EPISODE 2: THE GODFATHERS) ...PLAY... Over time I have come to realize that what is most feared in our national politics is gradually making inroads into our school politics. #WinePolitics just like my colleague #FrankFrodo would call it, is becoming the norms of the game in Unizik. Our political psychos believe that before they can make headway in their quest for an SUG position, they must kowtow to some students who have acclaimed themselves godfathers. These psychos visit these self acclaimed godfathers with wines, asking for their endorsement for the SUG positions they want to vie for. Come to think of it, why would I buy you a bottle of Andre, when you can’t even buy yourself a can of yoghurt? The funniest thing is that the so called godfathers are those who lost in the elections, when they vied for an SUG position. I wonder how a loser would guide you to win. What a funny paradox. The norm in Unizik is simple, as long as you have contested for an SUG position, whether you lost or not, you are qualified to be a godfather, even if you were disqualified, people will still come to you for endorsement, after all, they the need to bank on your experience, it doesn’t matter if you are an experienced loser. The truth still remains that this hyper psychos that claim to be godfathers would do nothing to ensure that their endorsed candidates win; they won’t even vote for you, because paying school fees at that time is a sin they wouldn’t want to commit. Neither would they belittle themselves to campaign for you. All they do as godfathers is sit down in their rooms, receive wines from contestants, and endorse the highest bidder. The fact somehow remains that, the psychos believe they need the endorsement of the hyper psychos in their political campaign. They neglect the electorates, those who would pay school fees and would be willing to vote also.
