NON-LEAGUE VISIT #49 Both clubs are now in League 2 but when i visited Burton Albion FC via the York City FC supporters coach in 2007 they were both proud members of Non-Leagues top tier.(I use the word proud because everybody does!)The Brewers used to play across the road at Eton Park but moved in 2005 into the purpose-built Pirelli Stadium so named because of the nearby Pirelli factory.Wanna buy a calender! The venues construction cost over £7million and has been described as unspectacular and ill go along with that.Certainly smart but to my eyes uninspiring. The capacity is 6,912 and jiggle those numbers around and you get 6,192 which is the record attendance gained in 2009 against not Manchester United but Oxford United.Segregation was the order of the day on my visit but i did a tour all round albeit outside. The Main/South Stand where i sat was surprisingly the only seating but the other 3 sides are all covered. Opposite is the long Pop Side (image courtesy of Russell Cox )while the two ends are identical. The East End for the away contingents has a scoreboard on its roof and at one time showed us winning 3-1 with not all that much time left.Although Albion had a man sent off we lost 4-3!Maybe i should have tried the local delicacy - faggots!
