NORMALCY SHOULD RETURN IN ACADEMIC DECISION MAKING IN DU. Now that fyup has been irreversibly rolled back normalcy should return back in decision making processes in DU. The intervention by the mhrd/ugc was necessary and justified as far as reversing of the violation by du of NPE mandated structures for undergraduate programs is concerned. Now the Statutory Bodies of the University (EC/AC/FACULTY/DEPTS) along with teachers must take over. The Standing Committee of the UGC- a one time emergency measure only to make recommendations for converting 2013-14 fyup students to 3 years format- has submitted its suggestions. It has no further role and should now be dissolved. It should not become a task force in a different avtar. Without wasting further time internal participative mechanism within the University should decide about redistribution of papers for the remaining 4 semesters. The distribution suggested by the Standing committee (3+1, 3+1, 4+0, 4+0 for DC1/ DC2) should be altered if necessary. There is no inviolable sanctity for keeping 4 papers/semester for this batch. Theirs is an exceptional case demanding exceptional consideration. They are all in the Honours stream and their 2 semesters were loaded only with FCs & other non disciplines papees. Only 2 DC2 papers at the Undergraduate level is insufficient. The format could be altered by adding 1DC2/semester. The core point is that centre of decision making should shift back to university. Rigorous attention shall be required for readjusting structures and course contents and training programs of BTechs of 2013-14.
