NOTE TO NEW TRAVELING MINISTERS: When I was starting out in ministry, all I knew was that God had asked me to teach, preach and heal, telling me, “You will be a mighty teacher.” But my question was: “How can this be? I know so few people.” To which He responded, “I will bring you before many.” In retrospect, thinking back over the last fifteen or so years, I guess that he really has. I have gotten to speak on television, radio, in conferences and conventions with notables such as Kenneth Copeland, Jerry Sevelle, Creflo Dollar, Bill Winston, Myles Monroe, Fred Price Senior and Junior, Richard and Lindsey Roberts, Keith Moore, Dennis Burke and many others. I hooked up with the international Convention of Faith Ministries (ICFM), became their Los Angeles Area Director and later was promoted to their Southwest Regional Director. I’ve ministered in hospital rooms, homes, garages, schools, prisons, small groups, Bible studies and taught and preached in conventions, conferences and lots and lots of churches. But back when I was starting out, things weren’t progressing fast enough for me. So whenever I would go to a minister’s conference, man, I worked every inch of those rooms, meeting Pastors and soliciting them for speaking engagements. But it seemed that the harder I worked, the more I figuratively got stiff-armed in the forehead, ignored and in some cases avoided. Then God gave me a dream. In this dream, there was a bunch of fine ladies all dressed up in their finery, sitting around a large parlor with saucers and teacups on their laps, evidently having a formal tea. Then, someone made the mistake of opening the back door and a hundred pound, overly excited, tail wagging young dog pushed into the room jumping upon and slobbering on all of the ladies and knocking their tea and cakes and cookies in every direction. Then in the dream, God said, “Did you see that dog?” “That is a depiction of YOU at a minister’s conference.” Ever since then, it has become all about relationships. I no longer see them as my source, but rather as friends, colleague and associates. I try to find any way that I can help them and their ministries. Sure we still exchange business cards and I might invite them to lunch, but I no longer solicit at minister’s conferences.
